Extension lines are used as connection sets and can be classified upon the following features:

• Male-female, male-male, male-rotating end;
• Different diameter: the difference between inner and outer diameter is used to know pressure resistance (low, medium, high);
• Different materials (PVC, DEHP-free PVC, PUR, PE, coextruded, triextruded with inner PE or EVA and outer PVC);
• Different colours (transparent or amber coloured);
• Linear or helix-like;
• Different length.

D) PUR

These are standard extension lines, but realized in PUR raw material, to avoid transfer of any substances to the drugs that run inside the tube. Moreover, like PVC, PUR raw material is able to glow all standard components in market, and so it is available for every need of technical and paramedical staff.

The only difference is the cost of the product, which however can be used in critical situations and with exposed patients and is not attachable from further noxious substance.

E) Amber coloured PVC, PE and PUR

Amber coloured extension lines are used for the administration of light-sensitive solutions. Unlike other products, they are requested in material as DEHP-free PVC, PE and PUR, because light-sensitive solutions are similar to chemiotherapy and antiblastic drugs. So a product without phthalates is often requested.

The amber coloured extension lines are resistant to low or medium pressure. They can be linear or helix-like.

For some specific uses in surgery, in first aid or in intensive care units, where there are machines, length of extension lines more than 150-200cm long is reduced with a coil treatment that allows to shorten the tube, avoiding clinking and hitch with the tube in the area between the patient and the machine, where paramedical staff has to work without obstacles.

The helix-like extension lines are usually made of PVC, PE or PUR tubes and with little diameters, for example:

• tube 1x2 – PVC, PUR, PE
• tube 1,5x2,5 – PVC, PUR, PE
• tube 1x2,5 – PVC, PUR, PE
• tube 2x3,2 – PVC, PUR, PE

C) Extension lines with 3 ways stopcocks

Usually when requesting this product it is necessary to check the pressure resistance the set has to bear.

LOW PRESSURE

We have 3 ways stopcocks with Male L.L. (not rotating) linked directly to an extension line in the customer's needed length and diameter 3x4,1 or 2,5x4,1.

In case of requests of shorter diameter we have 3 ways stopcocks with Rotating Male L.L. to which an extension line with connectors Male – Female L.L. can be screwed.

On request, we can couple stopcocks with extension lines of materials different from PVC, like:

• DEHP-free PVC and PUR for chemotherapy and antiblastic drugs;
• Amber coloured material for photosensitive solutions.

Manifolds of stopcocks linked to extension lines are rarely requested, because on the manifolds there are several hooks and extension lines can be screwed only at the moment of using them.

HIGH PRESSURE

High pressure stopcocks are manufactured with raw materials resistant to high peak pressure. 3 ways stopcocks can be used for medium pressure (300 psi) or high pressure (1000 psi). They always have Rotating Male L.L. to which the extension line can be screwed:

• for pressure to max. 300 psi linear or helix-like PE extension lines are chosen, or different raw materials with diameter that allows resistance to those pressures;
• for pressure to max. 1000 psi armed PUR extension lines are chosen.

D) Extension lines with manifolds of stopcocks

Stopcocks and manifolds represent the hinge of connection between other infusion sets and extension lines linked to the infusion pumps or machines. Stopcocks and manifolds are always placed after the drugs container and the machine and before the patient. On the last tube that reaches the patient a latex-free injection point for unexpected administration can be added.

Stopcocks and manifolds can be used for low, medium or high pressure and they can be coupled to every type of extension lines with, obviously, the same features of pressure resistance. Stopcocks and manifolds, sold separately, have protective caps, at least one of which is vented to allow flow of Ethylene Oxide Gas during sterilization.

The 3 ways stopcock has two female Luer Lock connectors and one male Luer Lock with rotating ring. Moreover, the stopcock can have a latex-free injection port or a needle-less valve fixed on its side, for using in closed circuit systems or simply for unexpected administrations.

E) Accessories
