Enteral nutrition bags, in different sizes, following doctor prescription, is filled of nutrition drugs prepared by the main pharmaceutical companies, to administrate them to the patient with infusion sets different from the other ones becuase of their final connector. In fact, instead of the Male Luer Lock there is a universal nutrition connector to be linked to the nose-gastric probe.

The enteral nutrition process doesn't take place by intravenous path, but through a nose-gastric probe, in order to get directly to the digestive apparatus (oesophagus and stomach). Enteral bags, independently from their capacity, can be classified according to their cap:

  • Little cap, used in France and ex French colonies (cheaper)
  • Big cap, used in Italy, rest of Europe and rest of the World

Empty infusion sets have two features, useful for overcoming the density and viscosity of drugs, that are:
  • drip chamber without solution filter;
  • set often used with infusion pumps to guarantee continuity and regularity of the flow rate.
In case of use with pumps it is possible to produce a compatible enteral administration set, upon checking of samples used by the customer.

Parenteral nutrition bags can come in different size, from 150 ml to 1000 ml for pediatric use, or from 2000 ml to 5000 ml for adults. Usually, parenteral nutrition bags are assembled like a simple bag.
