Elastomeric pumps are disposable devices for continuous infusion of drug solutions, with a pre-determined constant flow rate. They are made of a balloon-container in soft plastic material which applies a constant pressure on the inside solution. Drug solutions are intravenously administrated along an infusion line.

Our elastomeric pumps for IV drug administration are a safe, effective way to help you control your pain. They are used for chemotherapy, pain control analgesia and post operative pain control. Their use should be offered to most patients as a means of control against acute post-surgical pain, trauma related pain, cancer related pain or any acute pain state where rapid and relief via intravenous route is preferred.
There are two kinds of elastomeric pumps:
- Standard elastomeric pumps;
- Elastomeric pumps with bolus (PCA).
A) Standard elastomeric pumps
Standard elastomeric pumps are constant-flow-rate pumps. They're disposable devices for continuous IV administration of drugs, not requiring batteried nor electricity. Some of their benefits are a better and quicker relief from pain, no need for frequent injections and ease of use.

B) Elastomeric pumps with bolus (PCA)
PCA stands for Patient Controlled Analgesia. PCA pumps allow the patient to manage his IV drug administration, whenever he needs it and without having to wait for the nurse to bring an injection. PCA pumps are designed to give a small amount of pain medication using a hand held button.
When you awake after your operation you will be connected up to the PCA pump. It is programmed to allow the drug to exert its effect (a few minutes), so it does not deliver any drug before this time even if you press the button. PCA pumps might be used in post-operation recovery, cancer pain, severe flare-ups of inflammatory or autoimmune disease, severe sickle cell crises and burn pain.
